0655 hrs. (no O2 or light taken)
Just getting light - not yet sunrise here, but
good light.
Can count 93 fish on shelf - limited vision
because the floating cage is still present.
Count 69 on south half of shelf.
Est. 160-180 fish visible on shelf.
All sizes of fish - including young & juvenile
but only one or two young were
seen.
Activity - feeding & following & chasing -
suggesting that spawning is still
present.
"Plowing" behavior (as coined by Bob Lui - UCLA)
-> has not been positively noted before in C. dialebius.
However, I observed what I believe is plowing
in the deep silt on the western portion of the
upper shelf. One fish in particular was seen
furrowing in the dirt by diving into the dirt (silt)
and following an S-pattern - in two spots as shown.
"Flashing" on dirt is frequent. Other movements
suggesting plowing were seen but the movements
are just on the surface of the silt - no actual
furrow made.
5mm young seen. - near rock & moving to deeper
waters near -
