We stopped at Manse (0730-0740) and Schoolhouse
(0825-0845) and dropped traps in each.
Stopped then at D.H. + completed work there before going
back to Schoolhouse & then Manse.
Initial observations:
Weather - Complete, dark cloud cover. Heavy
rain in some areas, but did not rain at
D.H. while we were there (had rained before
we arrived, however). Wind slight but cold.
General Condition - Practically no algae on
rocks (only a very slight light
green tint on rocks, indicating a
very thin layer still on) Some small
mate of very dark green algae "here &
there"
No scum over shelf - very broken over
rest of water. (Rained - :: dispersed scum)
Activity on shelf - increased above that five
weeks or recent visits. Some feeding-most just
swimming. No breeding activity or territoriality.
0850 hrs. - count 90 individuals on shelf +
estimate 120. A significant # of young
juveniles seen - some quite small (~1mm).
Many adults over sloping rock. Juveniles
concentrated in southern half of upper shelf.
