C99.3
on rocks.
Fish feeding on grey matter (1930hrs.)
When we first arrived and before we got into
the water, we observed a dying fish (large adult
male) apparently natural death. He was first resting
on his side on a rock and we thought he
was dead. But after about a minute, he flipped
a little but as if trying to erect himself.
In doing this, he moved about 1" to the other
side of the rock and then lay still for a while
more (still on his side). This process was
repeated several times until he disappeared
several minutes later after we stopped watching
for a minute or two. In the process of
flipping, he had once almost thrust
himself under a rock and it is entirely
possible that this is what happened, although
we made a rough search for him and
could not find him. No planaria or
beetles could be observed on or near him.
(Flipping motion prevented this?)
0900 hrs. - Water level = 1.78
1000 hrs. - Or = 4 ppm
1300 hrs. - Water level = 1.82 (light hitting
NW edge of water area).
Seining not successful even when seine
left in 1½ hrs.
Some of individuals captured were put in
the empty (offish) cage.
