C55 67-8 Carol J. James Devil's Hole, DVNM, Ash Meadows, Nye Co., Nevada. 21 August 1967 1740 - 2000 hrs. Steve and Carol James Initial Observations: Weather - partly cloudy Wind - none Algae - good cover on shelf. Still somewhat sparse: in deep portion at NW portion of upper shelf. Bubbles on algae + Few on surface. Scum - covers only about 1/3 of upper shelf - not over lower shelf at all. However, scum that is present is very "heavy" - falling into water when touched. Water very clear. Beetles & planaria on rocks. C. diaboli - ~20 fish on surface. Est. 350+ on shelf. Some chasing observed. Many juveniles. Water level - (1800 hrs) 2.0f on scale. Collection: Collection of fish was made only by seining. We used a 6' x 6' (3/4" mesh) umbrella seine. We put it in at about 1810 hrs. and
