cgg 67-7 Carol J. James Devil's Note, DVNM, Ash Meadows, Nye Co., Nevada. 15 August 1967 1920 - 2030 hrs. DST Vera & Carol James No trapping or seining done because of storm activity. 1920 hrs. - Water level 1.94 Gusty winds and stormy. Complete cloud cover but still some light (no flashlight needed to see & estimate fish or upper shelf). Algae abundant except for area of feeding (mentioned later) and still not heavy in deepest portions of northern half of upper shelf. Floating algae - very well developed, although none at the southern edge of shelf in shallowest 6" water. Now two mats at Southwest edge - one directly north of one noted cgg 67-6. Many floating "pads," Very few or no bubbles on surface (as noted at this time of day cgg 67-6). Also, now, on algae that I could see. [Not: absence or reduction of bubbles from surface & algae, in comparison to previous observations, due possibly to cloud overcast during time of day sun would normally shine directly on shelf?] Scum much reduced. shifting with wind. Scum only covers approx. 1/4 of the water's surface, most of this is over the upper shelf area. Rest of scum majorally over western edge.
