Not less than 2 Hawaiian Noddies were seen on nest and a single Fairy Tern egg opened for examination proved to be almost ready to hatch. Noddy --- -- --- 50 --- 25 ?25-50? Fairy Terns were probably nesting and both old nests and young of the Hawaiian Noddy. A few moments were spent observing Fairy Tern behaviour. When startled by a gun in the distance these birds responded by with flight intention movements (wing-raising) and quiet "wheels" which may indicate that this "wheel" is a low intensity alarm or anxiety note. To a shouted monosyllable they responded by elevating the head from the shoulders and looking around.
