Beck alone, on the France, went to:- BISMARCK, New Ireland Jan.11-13, 1928 Beck (D 300) " New Britain, Rabaul " 14 - Feb.7, " (D 304) NEW GUINEA, Samarai, Feb. 14, 1928. Beck left the expedition in February, taking the log of the France with him. The ship picked up Drowne, Hamlin and Richards at Kieta, Bougainville Island, on March 12, taking them to Rabaul, which they reached March 20,1928. No appreciable collecting was done during this period. Dr. Drowne and Guy Richards left the expedition at Rabaul, about March 30, 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Beck later went to Sydney, Australia, and later did some collecting in New Guinea. Hannibal Hamlin took command of the Expedition and continued on the France through the Solomon Islands, Louisiade Archipelago, Trobriand and d'Entrecasteaux groups (see page 22.)
