The original field notebooks and maps are preserved in the Manuscript Room of Bernice P. Bishop Museum, where Mr. Bryan was Entomologist and Curator of Collections from 1919 to 1968, and is now Manager of the Pacific Scientific Information Center. He joined the Whitney Expedition, as a guest scientist from Bernice P. Bishop Museum, at Pago Pago, on February 18,1924, and accompanied the France to Nassau I., Puka Puka atoll, the Phoenix and Tokelau Islands, the main islands of Samoa, and the Lau Islands of Fiji, leaving the France on October 18, 1924, at Wakaya I., Fiji. His 400 pages of typed field notes contain material on the geography and natural history of the more than 80 islands visited, together with a sketch map of each, prints of 69 photographs. As with the other volumes of this series, reference is made in the chronological itinerary which follows by means of the letter "Z" followed by the manuscript page.
