PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION CENTER BERNICE P. BISHOP MUSEUM Honolulu, Hawaii 96819 ยท Telephone 855-951 Mailing Address: P. O. Box 6037, Honolulu, Hawaii 96818 December 8, 1969 Dr. Dean Amadon, Curator of Birds, American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th St., New York, N.Y. 10024 Dear Dr. Amadon: At long last I have found time to type out a final copy of my notes concerning the Whitney Expedition and its manuscript records, and am sending you a copy herewith. Going over this material has been very interesting and has shown me what a wealth of information concerning South Pacific Islands is contained in these 25 volumes. I hope that my 28 pages of notes may help serve as an index and key to this material and to the itinerary of the expedition. Of special interest to me is the wealth of information concerning the vernacular names of birds, especially as listed by Mr. Coultas in volume Y. As I believe I told you, I have a manuscript check list of the species of birds recorded from Pacific islands. If I am able, I would like some day to take another look at certain of the volumes and incorporate these native names into the check list. Thanking you for letting me examine these volumes, and wishing you and your associate a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous forthcoming New Year, I am Yours very sincerely, E. H.
