11 Aug temper of the Chinese but I have to side up Art. How long do you let them jerk you around? How long do you let them play the same? And for what? Neither of these 1° forest areas are anything like the reserve area we visited today. Both are much larger than we've seen yet we are restricted from exploring. Both are trafficked by "tourists" because the Chinese have no sense of ecology + litter, mercilessly. And yet they are so sure they are right. This area is beautiful, even the cultivated fields, but there is so little of it left and it is so poorly managed, or not managed at all. I do not regret a minute of this trip and in many ways it has been most successful. But I am also exceedingly grateful that I have no need or desire to establish a long-term research program here. P.S. Since I got a bit "testy" w/ Patrick 2 days ago the water has not been turned off once! How much bullshit do they think I'll put up w/ 12 Aug.
