Chris claims to have found "bamboo rat heaven." I'd love to believe it was so. 11 Aug. Today the perversal shit hit the fan. Our plane reservations from Kunming to Hong Kong were screwed up + no one here is capable of straightening things out. We may have to leave here as early as the 14th if we are to get to H.K. in time for our flight - There's no way we can cancel those tickets. But what put the icing on the cake was our trip to Mengla today. Beautiful weather - no rain for 24hr. Art checked the bat net in the rubber tree grove at 7:00 am. only to find it had been stolen. We loaded the cars before 9:00 am. + headed off. Mengla is a 3m. drive on the road that continues east from this field station. Beautiful mountains, most of which have
