A Good
Journal
La Santanana Camp
4 April Chris + I walked up the trail toward the Rio Peje and La Seler
for about a kilometer to a pasture where we spent
an hour + a half poking around under logs and under bark on
logs. Also a lot of time in the forest adjoining the pasture.
Found only a Leptodactylus pentadactylus and a Nerops lemnis
(see species accounts).
Returned to camp 445. At 515 I walked downstream
a few hundred meters for a bath. While I was sitting on
a rock beside the pool I had been swimming in, an agouti
came out of the woods ca. 7 m from me and crossed the river,
fairly oblivious to my presence.
Spent the evening taking care of specimens and
preparing for departure to 700m tomorrow.
Weather: today Sunny in morning + early afternoon,
becoming overcast by 300PM. Overcast the rest of the day,
sporadically lightly ca. 500PM. Temperature, as on all days
so far, in the mid 20's.
New birds today:
Wedge-billed Woodcreeper
Blue-stripped Sparrow
White-necked Jacarin
Buff-rumped Warbler
Nealy Amazon
Chris [illegible]-fronted Parakeet
Not enough time for bird-watching!!
