Cleveland Nat'l. Forest, Calif
1 August (cont)
I picked up 74 on which I drove W to El Cariso
R.S. where I turned N toward Los Pinos Plk. On
the way I picked up a fellow whose car had broken
down. I drove him up to Blue Jay Campground. I then
attempted to drive further N toward Santiago Plk. but
decided the road was too bad. I therefore turned around
+ went back down to El Cariso Station where I
asked directions to pine/fir stands, + was told that
the road I had tried was only really bad in the
spot where I had turned around and that I could
make it w/no problem. The only conifer stands in
the district were along that road. However by this
time it was ca 1730 + I decided not to try it
tonight. I therefore drove back to Blue Jay Campground,
prepared skeletons + spent the night.
Weather: today clear, hot (less so than on previous
days), quite breezy at times.
2 August
Drove N along the road through the Nat'l forest today -
very bad. I never found any decent chub/ale habitat.
When I came out [illegible] of the forest I drove pretty
much straight back to Berkeley, arriving ca. 2400.
