July 29 3½ mi C and 1 mi S Grapevine Pk., 6,700 ft., Nye Co., Nev.
G. Bartholomew is hunting roe & D. Johnson
has gone up to spend the night at the spring.
Aug. 1 west side Colorado R., 500 ft., 6 mi. N Calif. line, Clark Co., Nev.
We left the above locality by about 9:30
AM driving via Beatty, Indian Spd., Las Vegas,
Searchlight to 9 mi. 20 + 5½ mi S Searchlight, 4,300 ft.,
Clark Co., Nev. The terrain was flat at our camp
with hills several 100 yds. to the W. The soil
except in the washes was gravelly. The
most noticeable plants were Yucca brevifolia,
Yucca mohavensis, Opuntia sp?, Cholla sp?,
several unidentified shrubs & small
clumps of grass. In the washes were
Mesquite, Catclaw also. I set out 80 traps
mostly along the edge of a wash. I caught
Dipodomys merriami 13♀ 5♂ 2?
" mohavensis 8♀ 6♂
Peromyscus maniculatus 4♀ 1♂
" creticus 1♂
Onychomys torridus 1♂
Perognathus formosus 1♂
total 42 mice / 80 traps.
We left camp by noon & reached our
present camp via Searchlight, crossing into
Calif. & back into Nev. by the "old gov't road." W. Dalquest
& D. Johnson drove to White Sprs. for bats but were
unsuccessful, and G. Bartholomew & I put out
