2 mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500 ft., Washoe Co., Nev.
2 grouse, saw several chipmunks in rocky
ledges bordered by Pinus albicaulis, many
gopher ropes on the ridges some of which
led into the patches of unmelted snow. I
also saw several Callospermophilus & 1
Citellus beldingi on the high ridges as
well as marmot droppings.
The camp is situated in the
Canadian life zone. The dominant
plants are Pinus contorta and
Douglasia mestensiana starts a little above
camp with Pinus monticola, generally
higher as Pinus flexilis & P. albicaulis.
Populus tremuloides occurs in
clumps usually in the bottoms of canyons.
There are many little mt. meadows
filled with grass & numerous wild flowers.
Other kinds of wild flowers grow up to &
apparently above timber line.
We are leaving this afternoon for
Virginia City.
