Itinerary, etc.
May 22
W.S. Rodgers Residence, Boulder Creek
Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
5:30 am. It rained last night before I left
in Berkeley. Joye and one two boys
went to San Jose yesterday then to here
last evening. We encountered almost
along the way; also sunbirds. It has
rained all night here. This morning
my attention was aroused by a Vireo.
It sounds much like a Cassin Vireo, but
varies more than I remembered them as
doing. There are several around here.
It also seems to fast, being almost exactly
as fast as a Black-headed Grosbeak. Another
peculiarity is the last note which often
resembles in pattern the Olive-sided
Flycatcher [illegible] time 1 sec. So far follow;
1. Horned Owl (last night)
2. Cassin's Vireo
3. W. Warbling Vireo
4. Black-headed Grosbeak
5. Olive-sided Flycatcher
6. N. Flycatcher
7. Pine Siskin
8. W. Robin
9. Spotted Towhee
10 Brown Towhee
11. Calif. Quail
12. Purset-backed Thrush (singing)
13. Calif. Yellow Warbler
14. Junco
15. Hintermost Warbler
16. Purple Finch
17. Anna Hummingbird
