J. Rodgers - 1939 143 Itinerary, etc. April 9 Black Hawk Ranch, 4"2 misse Mt. Diabls, Contra Costa Co., Calif. Bert Jones, Ronald Smith and I arrived at Black Hawk Ranch about 10:30 am, printed a letter to Mr. Housechild at the house by the road and drove on up the private road to the mansion and the 9 car garage. We parked at the garage and hiked up a zig-zag trail to a ridge about 1100 feet above the ranch. From the top of this ridge, to the north and northeast we could see a rugged ridge that showed much bare rock and many holes that looked like they might be good nesting places for raptors. Beyond this ridge to the north we could look down into a valley. According to the topo sheet it must have been Curry Canyon and the junction of Marsh and Mt Diablo creeks. The former flows north and the latter southeast; from there Marsh creek flows east through a canyon. Directly north we could see North Peak, NNW Mt Diablo, to the left just a sloping ridge that leads Price Canyon. Directly NW, just across a canyon, we could see the Danville-Mt Diablo road rounding a top point. Down in the canyon below
