out of the draw onto an upper country which is
uneven in topography and covered with juniper
and pino pines. We saw three lizards and three or
four Sceloporus occidentalis. In a slightly lower,
level and sage covered (Artemisia tridentata)
meadow, we saw a Cnemidophorus. Going
down a rocky draw toward Cedar Canyon,
we saw 6 or 8 large black lizards (probably
Sceloporus occidentalis). I collected several.
Where the floor of the wash levels out some,
and the bottom is sandy, I shot a Crotaphytus
collaris. After we reached Cedar Canyon and
were circling into the draw toward camp, I
spotted a Sceloporus magister doing push-ups
on top of a big rock. I shot it. About the same place,
I saw 3 and Avery said he saw 5 Cnemidophorus
scattered from one area within 20 feet of each other.

Last night—Yesterday afternoon about 4:00, the sky
began to cloud up, but the evening was balmy and
the night was barely cool; one cover was sufficient. After
dinner Dr. Grinnell walked up the canyon (the draw
in which we are camped) and came back reporting
the trail of what must have been Bufos punctatus. Omer
Aldrich and I went up with flashlights and

the toads, we called for screech owls, but didn't
