Waddell Creek/Miniabe Beach
Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
Jan. 16, 1938.
We found 3 Ceromyces in our traps,
found, a freshly opened gopher hole, set
a trap and (in 30 minutes) caught it. We
tossed a coin for Paul won't. After
breakfast we walked (east) across a
field and collected 2 or 3 slender
salamanders and 15 or 18 Triturus. We
took every Triturus we saw for 15 minutes,
so, consider the collection representative for
that time and place. We looked under all
logs & rocks & tore several rotten logs apart.
We had planned on driving to the
forks (2 1/2 miles) and walking to a flat
1 1/4 mile above the forks to trap for Zapus
on a flat on which I have a faint
recollection of seeing small mice jump
whisker-garous, but, we have learned that
a caterpillar tractor is coming down the
already muddy road, bringing down
some bridge stringers, and is leaving
the road in an impassable condition!
There was less than a trace of rain
during the night but it is raining
steady this morning. It's darks it looks
like we are in for a long rain.
