J. Rodgers 180 - 6. 99B Sept.26,1938 Hillgard Field, U.C. Campus, Berkeley, Calif. 6:45 am. I heard my first Bidget Sound White-crowned Sparrow on the campus for this fall. Sept.30,1938 Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. The last four mornings I have walked from Vine St. to the Campus between 4:45 and 5:30 am. During the walk, I have heard almost constant notes being uttered overhead. From two to seven or eight times during each walk (15 min.) I heard shore birds, some of which I recognized as Killdeer; the others, I could not identify. The notes uttered most constantly (1- every 15 to 30 feet) as I walked along) were those of some land bird. Yesterday I heard White-crowned sparrows making notes that I believe were the same. I believe the notes made by the heard overhead were all made by the same kind of bird. I cannot say how long these birds have been migrating over, since I heard them the first morning that I was out early enough. Oct.10,1938 S.E. corner of Life Sciences Building, Univ.
