On the grass-covered (x
Baccharis or Rhamnus spotted
tops) the hills along the north
rim of the canyon, flycatching
out from the top, a dead
thistle stalk, I saw and
heard a Say Phoebe. In
breeding season the Say Phoebe
is of lower sonar; in fact
might be considered a desert
bird. Even in winter the Say
Phoebe almost always
picks drier places to hunt
than its near relative the
Black Phoebe. Here it is
hunting in the open & drier
grass covered hill tops while
the Black Phoebe hunts in
the bottom) the canyon along
the stream.
