February 22, 1936 39-8. I saw a flock of Pine Siskins feeding on seeds from they were picking from the old cones of the Alders. They seem to be the only birds feeding using this particular source I food at this time. As I creased the north rim the canyon I spotted a Spandor Hawk and later two more hovering over open grassy country by taking advantage of the south wind blowing up the south facing slope) the canyon. I also saw a Red-tailed Hawk taking advantage of the same up-shooting winds to hover over a grove Eucalyptus trees; later two Redtails in the same general locality hovering over the grassy
