February 8, 1936 Lake Meritt, Oakland, California. General Comment. Weather - Cool enough to make standing or sitting in one place more than 20 minutes or half an hour uncomfortable. Sky overcast, occasional very light mist. Party - Zool. 113 class, group of 11 or 12 students led by Dr. Linsdale. Time - 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Route) travel - Along the east and west sides of the fresh-water pond near the north end of Lake Meritt, where the ducks are customarily fed. (This is an arm of the lake, into which a freshwater stream flows. The lake itself is of estuarine origin and therefore is salt water.) The lake and its surrounding park could well be divided into 4 main habitats: 1. Open water 2. Shallow edges 3. Mud or gravel beaches 4. The surrounding
