These specimens have been in formalin since they were collected. Miller says that this accounts for some darkening of the specimens. Acc. no. 5616 Lower Calif., Mexico. 1431 Coleonyx variegatus collected at San Jose del Cabo July 9, 1938 by Edward Rosa of 3120 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley, Calif. Rosa is an entomology student in the Univ. Calif. and a friend of Dan Jillston, who brought the specimen into the Museum. Half Moon Bay, San Mateo Co., Calif. Sept. 5, 1938 1432 Gibbonsia metzi Hubbs (Kelpfish) Collected and sent in by S.P. Estobrook, Bx. 704 San Carlos. See letter, Sept. 6. Arrived at M.V.Z., Sept. 7. I identified by P.S. Barnhart's Marine Fishes of Southern California. Fitath description of the species in most character, but comes from n. of the range and is 3 or 4 inches too long.
