18 Oct 1954 Calif: Alameda Co, Berkeley
plans call for an examination of the
roads, during the fall and winter
rains, in the vicinity of the valley including the towns of Concord,
Walnut Creek, Danville, Alamo and
San Ramon. It is known at the present
time that Toricha occurs within one
mile SW of Walnut Creek but
presumably nowhere E the main
N-S highway (Calif. State Hwy #21). None
is known from the Mt. Diablo
area. Ambleytoma is known from
Luni, NE of Walnut Creek and from
Concord, but nowhere presumably
W the N-S. highway. It is this
apparent non-overlapping contact
between the two genera which will
be investigated during this rainy
season. The area to be included
extends from the Bay on the north to
Dublin on the south, and areas as
for east and west of this line as
seem appropriate.
On this date, or perhaps early on
the morning of 19 Oct, a light rain
fell, measured in Berkeley as 0.1 inch.
This is first rain of the fall season.
19 Oct Calif: Contra Costa Co, Canyon
Stebbins examined road between town of
Canyon and Pindurst intersection. He
reports 55% of road wet with condensation
and 15 Toricha counted, several Ensatina and
Oreides. No additional rain was occurred.
