3 Dec. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Objective: Determine eastward limits of distribution of Taricha torosa and westward limits of Ambystoma in vicinity of Walnut Creek. Taricha taken at area 1½ mi. S, ½ mi. W Walnut Creek; Ambystoma as before 1½ mi. W.E Walnut Creek. Other species collected or noted: single subadult Rana aurora - 3 mi. W Mt Diablo, 1500 ft Aneides lugubris - 5 or 6 - ½ mi. S, 2 mi. W Mt Diablo. All together. Ensatina eschscholtzii - Single animal 1 mi. S, ½ mi. W Mt. Diablo. Bufo boreas. Not common. Few widely scattered individuals. Hyda regilla. Seen only in residential areas near Lafayette. Weather: Heavy steady rain during late afternoon and into evening clearing about 2230 hrs. Not cold. 31 Dec. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited study areas of Taricha, at Lafayette 1450-1520, Pinchurst 1540- 1555 hrs. No Taricha. 18 Oct. 1959 Calif.: Alameda Co., Berkeley A plan has been formulated for the determination of the ranges of Ambystoma and Taricha in the East Bay Area.
