21 July Mexico: Sonora & Arizona: Santa Cruz Co.
authorizing the specimens to be collected for
the University would have been an asset.
We were threatened threatened with being charged
duty in that we had made a special trip
for purposes of collecting. Most of afternoon
spent in Scyamore Canyon (E of Peña
Blanca Springs) where Zweifel collected
3 large Rana tarahumarae plus some
tadpoles. By accident met Dr. Franke
(Blaire and Dave Padis (sp.?) of Univ. of Texas
live at Scyamore Canyon. They are on
anuran call recording trip. Said Microhyla,
breeding chorus in full throat last evening.
During this day they had collected 1 R.
tarahumarae. Zweifel worked further down
stream from Yankle's Spring (probably 1-2
miles). Reports plenty of water however
none at Yankle's Spring except in tanks.
Returned to Peña Blanca for night camp.
About 2130 Dick +D located a small, very muddy
pool, about 10 x 50 feet by 4-6 inches, from
which a single Microhyla was calling. It was
captured. No other anurans were calling in
the Spring area. Moon, half-full and bright.
22 July Arizona: Santa Cruz and Pima cos.
After making photographs of several leftover
animals we left in mid morning for Tucson
