12 July Mexico: Sinaloa
Entire day spent in descent to coast with
short collecting stops at various places along
the way. A strange frog present at mid-
elevations appearing like R. pipiens without
spots, brown in color, and occupying
pipiens niche. A series of these taken.
Half or more of road now wide, graded,
and scraped permitting easily 20-25 mph.
Road enters thorn forest about 25 miles
from Mazatlan and at about 1500 ft.
Drove on to make camp at dusk in
and sub tropical scrub 9 mi. N Mazatlan
in first rolling country N of city, light
rain during early evening (apparently the
first rain in several days at least)
brought toads onto highway, Scaphiopus
conchi, Bufo mazatlanensis, Pternophyla
lobiens and Suidica brandini being taken.

My day in camp. Breeze in several short
forays reports large noonday breeding
chorus of toads (mostly Scaphiopus) a muddy
pool nearby. He also in daylight caught
the rare Diaglena spatula by this pool.
In evening he picked up a large Hypopachus sp.
on dirt road by camp. I caught Orycteleis
in camp area.
