1 July - 5 July Mexico: Pihuacuara. 7 mi. S W El Vergel (=lagunita) 7800'.
abundant. Otherwise animals were notably
lacking in spite of plenty of water, trees,
talus slides and sand banks. On 5 July
we drove back to Parral over the same
route as we entered the mountains. Most
of the way the ground had been rained on
at least some and at El Vergel and
a few other spots near the 2 largest
barrancas heavy rain (including hail)
fell while we were driving out. Except
for a few places where the road traverses
flattish meadow land it is probably
traversable in all weather because of
the rocky substrate. The night of the
5th we slept again at the Bryano in
Parral.
6 July Mexico: Durango
Most of this day and evening spent in
driving south to Durango City from Parral.
Short collecting stops were made at
Rio Florida and Rio Nazas where
Thamnophis aquae and melanogaster
and Crenidophorus sachei, Sceloporus
undulatus, Holbrookia texana, and Pitrophis
catenifer collected respectively. During
