29 June Meyico: Chilulvalua; 7 mi. S W El Vergel (Elaguinta), 7800 ft.
During evening local lumbermen and their
Indian helpers visited for several hours and
exchanged songs.
30 June Entire morning spent in putting up mammals
and birds. During late afternoon a search
of stream and will side areas down canyon
produced 1 Hyla arenicolor, Sceloporus jarrovi,
Buflo sp., a Thamnophis rufipunctatus and
another elegans-like species, a Cuneates
and Hyla spinia. A single junco was taken.
In the camp area Zweifel took a Eleutherdactylus
after dawn in a rocky out crop. A nativie
brought in a S. poinssetti. Today the first
rain heavy enough to moisten all of
surface soil occurred. Showers are short
but on this occasion heavy. We are hoping
more rains will come to bring out animals.
1 July - 5 July Camp was maintained at same site in
Arroyo Cuevo Blanco. On 3 July Zweifel & I
drove to end of road (at Lomas Lomas Ranch).
This road is eventually supposed to proceed
to Rio Verde (town)? and then to Guadalupe
y Calvo according to a construction sign
at El Vergel. During walks down tributary
arroyo of the Rio Verde we collect only a
small group of snakes, (3 Thamnophis) and
a water ouzel. S. jarrovi were everywhere
