26 June Mexico: Chihuahua in some scrappy pine
sole forest a Pithephus taken in adobe ruin,
several Sceloporus on walls and in wall
crevices and 2 young on hillside. Brown
toothed, mockingbirds, blue birds, rufous-crowned
sparrows and robins present. Poor wills calling
from adjacent hills.
27 June Near midmorning broke camp to drive back
to Chihuahua City and hence to Hidalgo del Parral.
On reaching Parral were invited to spend night

with Mr. Bruce Bryan an electrician for Amer.
Smelting and Refining Co., Colonia Prieta, Parral,
Chihuahua (P.O. address — Apt. 85, Parral, Chil.)
At their residence Zweifel captured one B. punctatus,
an unusually pink one.
28 June The entire day spent in driving over rough dirt
roads to a point 7mi. SW El Vargel (≈ Baquita
on World Aeronautical Chart) or 12 km by road
from El Vargel. This is same road which leads
to Rio Verde and Guadalupe y Calvo. Camp made
in abandoned road workers sheds in arroyo
with small stream. Surrounding hills covered
with open pine forest. Occasional
jumpers (?) are present.
29 June During morning examined stream up canyon
from camp. Captured B. pipiens, Bufo sp.;
larvae of both plus a Scaphiopus larva,
Ambystoma larvae and 3 kinds of fish.
