29 May Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Pinelhurst Visited only
this study area from 1745-1755 hrs.
4 June Dr Triturus study area 1400-1410. Did not
survey area for animals. Only checked eggs.
16 June Calif.: San Luis Obispo Co.
Began journey to Mexico near noon of this
day with intention of stopping off for several
days for A.A.A.S. meetings in Santa Barbara.
In passing through this county stopped in
Lopez Canyon near Arroyo Grande to collect
more specimens of warty T. torosus similar
to that brought in by Richard Johnston
to M.V.Z. about a week ago.
23 June Mexico: Chilualma Entered Mexico at 2100 hrs.,
and proceeded south for only a short distance
before camping.
24 June Drove most of distance to Chilualma City
and then westward to Mitaca on the Rio
Papigochic. All of main highway south
of El Paso in excellent shape. Recently paved
road now extends from Chilualma City to
Cuauhtenoc (San Antonio); excellent. Fairly good
dirt road continues to Mitaca. Most of
this route westward is through largely barren,
heavily overgrazed land; the higher elevations
attained are quite flat and plain-like.
Except of willows along the watercourses trees are
essentially absent. A few small dead-looking
