W. Riemen 1953 Journal 3 May Calif.: Shasta Co. In the edge of the main creak, a Rana catesbeiana in a flood pool of the main stream and several Rana boydei from similar pools and from the tributary canyons. Hyla present and also a large brown garter snake. Yellow pine zone with digger pine and Douglas fir also present. Last stop made at 1 mi. NE of Bella Vista. Single Thamnophis elegans stratis (?) taken here in grass at edge of road. Grassland with scattering of valley oaks. Small drainage ditch pool nearby. 4 May Calif.: Shasta to Elaneda Co. After camping for night few miles S Redding drove back to Berkeley between 0730 and 1245 hrs. Picked up one Thamnophis elegans gigas 7 mi. N Maywell in Glenn Co. while crossing highway. Irrigated rice fields. 8 May Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Pinchurst Visited Triturus study area 1330-1400. Adult Thamnophis elegans terrestris on road by subway adjacent to study area. This is one of few snakes seen in this area. 18 May Visited Triturus study area 0920-0950 hrs. 22 May Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both Triturus study areas, Lafayette 1535-1610 hrs., Pinchurst 1630-1650 hrs.
