1 May Calif: Eldorado Co. year at end of May. (See Triturus sierra for that time). Stream high and murky from recent rains (last evening?).
3 Triturus taken in side stream pool.
3 Ouicides taken from rotten logs. 1 Clemmys
from edge of main stream, 1 Rana cotosebiana
larva from shallow, narrow (2ft. x 2in.)
rivulet tributary. This locality about 1700ft
in yellow pine - digger pine transition area
with the yellow pine predominating. Logging
operations for yellow pine now underway.
Momentary stop 1 mi. NW of Coloma at edge
of isolated pool in bed of American River (South Fork)
revealed only 1 Bufo boreas which was not
collected. Last stop for day made: Eldorado Co.,
4 mi NW Coloma where in quiet portion of
main stream (20 ft. wide) 1 Rana boylei taken
and in pools left from former mining
operations 2 Rana aurora taken. No
Triturus seen though they were expected to
be present. Yellow pine - oak forest semi-
open with extensive treeless grass areas
nearby. Stream high, only slightly murky,
15°C.
2 May Camped for night at 2½ mi E Pilot Hill and
inspected stream here before breaking camp.
Ideal pool for Triturus but none seen, Rana
