W. Riemer 1953 Journal 14 Apr. Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Pinchurst Visited Triturus study area 1030-1245 hrs. 18 Apr. Calif.: Madera Co. Drove from Berkeley to O'Neals between 0830 and 1330 hrs. Participants on trip: myself, family, R. Zweifel. Objectives: To collect Triturus sierra and Rana boylii. Afternoon partially spent at O'Neals where a small creak produced Rana aurora in large numbers, Rana boylii in moderate numbers and 3 Clemmys. T. sierra larvae completing hatching. Evening spent encamped at San Joaquin Experimental Range. 19 Apr. Next morning drove into higher country toward Yosemite to find breeding animals. Stopped at Fresno River, 2 1/2 mi. S of Sugar Pine, Madera Co. Here in yellow pine incense cedar belt water temperature 7° in stream and 9° in spring pool. No frogs or salamanders. Water probably too rough. At Fish Camp, Mariposa Co. Zweifel got several boylii, stated this is altitude record. After travelling through Yosemite spotted several quiet side pools at edge of Merced River 2 mi. above Indian Lodge. Several boylii but no Triturus. Water temperatures 10 1/2-12 1/2° during early afternoon. Another stop
