W. Riemer 1953 Journal 1 Mar. Calif: Alameda Co. Arroyo Mocho 3rd stop: Arroyo Mocho, 1 mi. S Mt. Wallace, 2250 ft. Only a single Triturus torosus taken here in spite of considerable effort in rolling logs and rocks. Several other stops made during trip but they produced no specimens. Weather: cool to cold, sometimes windy, sunny and clear. Cold plus dryness appear responsible for death of animals seen. Thin cover of snow on higher elevations persisted throughout the day. A very light rain had fallen during previous night but not enough to moisten soil. On return home heavy snowfall encountered between Dublin and Walnut Creek. 2 Mar. Calif: Contra Costa Co.; Pinchurtt. Visited Triturus study area 0900 - 0920 hrs. 7 Mar. Visited Triturus study area 1435-1570 hrs. 8 Mar. Calif: Mendocino Co. Trip with P. Anderson, Rom Morales and myself. Objective: To collect demonstration material for Zoology classes; to collect Triturus. First stop in oak woodland near Cloverdale. Found nothing.
