W. Reiner 1953 Journal 23 Febr. Calif.: Santa Clara Co. 1 Bufo, 1 Cortia taken here. Terrain much as in East Bay with oak-chaparral covered hills, a good stream with rocky bed. 1 Mar. Calif.: Alameda Co. Took trip to Arroyo Mocho. Objective: to collect Triturus at spot where taken last 5 April and note stage in reproduction. On trip: R. Zweifel, myself and family, Jerry Code and family. First stop made in Arroyo Mocho, 5'2 mi. S., 8 mi. W Midway at 725 ft. Here stream flows through grazing land & rather broad open valley or canyon mouth. Vegetation principally of sycamores and valley (?) oaks. Adjacent hill sides with blue (?) oak woodlands. Stream clear with moderate flow, many deep pools. Banks mostly open with but little stream-side growth. At 1500 hrs. air temp. 9°; water 10 ½°C. Few R. boyli, no Triturus. Too cold? Situation looks ideal. Second stop: Arroyo Mocho, 8 mi. S., 4'2 mi. W Midway, 1500 ft. This is same spot quer as 13¼ mi. W, 2 mi. W Cedar Mt., 1500 ft for last 5 April. Here collected sample of Triturus torosus (see that account) several Sceloporus, Hyla regilla (see that account), 2 Anaxides lugubris, 1 Campropettis getulus, 2 Cunaceas cancellosus, 1 Tantilla eiseni.
