W. Riemer 1953 Journal 7 Feb. Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Pinchurst Visited Triturus study area 1425-1545 hours. 15 Feb. Calif.: Napa Co. Objective: Collect series of Triturus granulosus in breeding condition for purpose of artificially fertilizing and rising eggs. Participating: myself and family, Richard Zweifel, S.F. Coole, Jr. and family. Route followed was directly from Berkeley to east slope of Mt. St. Helena and return. Collections were made at the following places: (1) 2½ mi. N, 1 mi. W Calistoga Open grassy hillside with open woods of madrone, digger pine, Douglas fir. Extensive rocky outcrop on adjacent bench. Soil damp under larger rocks and logs. Clear, sunny, cool. 6 Ennece, 2 Gerbranotus multicornatus, many Ecdopous both active and under cover, 1 Diadophis, few Batrachoseps, 2 Aneides lugubris, 10 A. flavi punctatus. (2) 3½ mi. E, ½ mi. S Mt. St. Helena. See 20 Oct. 1951 for account under Triturus granulosus. 12 of this species collected. Saw also 1 Rana gorgii, Batrachoseps, 1 Ensatina. (3) 4 mi. N, 1½ mi. W Calistoga Here in middle to late afternoon in an area very much like that described as (1) above we collected. 4 Diadophis, 9 Ennece, 6 Gerbranotus multicornatus, 5 Aneides lugubris.
