1 Feb. Calif: Napa and Yolo cos. This social-family fieldtrip was participated in by myself, my wife and children; Karlstrom and wife; Zweifel; S.F. Coole, Jr. and wife and child. Objective: to enjoy and collect in eastern Napa Co.
First collecting stop: 6.5 mi NE Napa, Napa Co. Here on grassy knoll and in adjacent oak-madrone forest the party collected Batrachoseps, Eusatina (intergrade), Omeides, Scoloporus, Eumeces, Contia. The four Contia (taken from under rocks and logs) were in the forest edge area. Weather sunny, warm, clear. 2nd collecting stop: 9.3 mi. NNW Monticello, Napa Co. About 2 hrs of early afternoon spent here. Party collected Omeides, Triturus torosus, Batrachoseps, Boa, Rana boylii, Hylla, Scoloporus, Contia. 11 Contia taken here. Oak-digger pine open forest on slopes where most collecting done. Change wally (?) oaks in flat open areas. Well scattered. All grass heavily grazed. Sunny, warm, clear. Large numbers of Lewis' woodpeckers in larger oaks. 3rd stop: 1½ mi. E junction of Yolo, Napa, Solano cos lines, in Yolo Co. Here Omeides, Eumeces, Triturus torosus collected during short late afternoon stop.
