26 Apr. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. - Visited both Triturus
study areas, at Lafayette 0840-0945 hrs.
Pinchurst 1015-1045 hrs. Season appears to
be over and adults leaving water.
27 Apr. Calif.: Tuolumne Co. - With Richard Johnston
and family and my family drove via
Highway 50 (U.S.), State 120 and 49 to Columbia
and from there to Italian Bar and on
South Fork of Stanislaus River. Beautiful spot
with rushing river, broad open grassy
meadows, apple trees and grapes (abandoned)
and abundant bird life. Bridge crosses
river at this point. Camped here for night.
Found no sign of Triturus. Did collect one
Ecaloporus for H. Jordan.
28 Apr. Calif.: Calaveras Co.
On way home drove through Vallecito,
Murphy, Altaville and State 4 to
Bay Area. Collected armanan larvae
and one R. boylii near Vallecito.
Checked Coyote Creek at Vallecito,
Angels Creek SE of Murphy but
found no Triturus. Entire area of
foothills lush green at this time. Also
checked along dam at Copperopolis
for Triturus. None found.
