5 Apr. Calif.: Alameda Co.
Just 0.5 mi. further up the road lay a DOR
Thamnophis elegans atratus subadult. 0.1 mi.,
further a subadult Gyrinotus multicaninus,
body temp. 24.6° C. Examined one of small
brooks tributary to Calaveras Creek near
rattle snake locality but found no Triturus.
One large R. boylii seen. Examined San
Antonio's Creek where it crosses Calaveras Dam
road but no Triturus. Water clean, deep
pools, quiet flow or none on rock, sand
and mud bottoms, plenty of overhanging and
submerged roots and other vegetation. Perhaps
open nature of terrain and vegetation is
not favorable for Triturus. Hyla and
Rana aurora common. Drove then
to Coral Hollow SE of Tuinevere but
because of arid desert like nature of place
returned to and drove up Arroyo Mocho.
Juvenile rattler picked up while leaving
Coral Hollow.
