20 Oct. Calif.: Napa Co. Party of Bill Woodin,
Richard Zweifel and myself visited
certain spots in Napa and Sonoma
Co. Objectives were to collect Rana boylii
and Ancoides flavipunctatus for Zweifel,
Triturus for me. Left Berkeley 0715 hrs.,
Woodin providing transportation. Arrived
at Calistoga 0915 hrs. First stop made
at Robert Louis Stevenson Home (now a
State Monument) 2 mi. E, 1 mi S Mt. St.
Helena. Here, because of recent rains soil under
exposed small litter damp but in sheltered
areas and under larger pieces of litter soil
dry. Apparently the rains here have been light
so far. Also, about ½ mi. up the canyon
directly above the house we found the
Silverado Silverado Mine ("abandoned" on
the topographic sheets) now with a locked
and blocked entrance. Because of
seepage in mine area and from collecting
tanks just below the mine
there were areas of saturated soil
present. From vicinity of mine and
buildings down canyon the party
collected 4 young Esothia, 1 Ancoides
