Journal W. RĂmer 1951 9 Sept. Calif.: Marin Co. Novato and point [Paper Will Creek] where the Arroyo Nicasio enters Lagunitas Creek is extremely arid and mostly over- grazed grassland. At the point where the road from Nicasio joins the one between Point Reyes Station and Petaluma there were a few large but isolated pools still present. Fish were extremely abundant, R. boylii young present. No Triturus with a short examination. That this region is quite wet at other times of year is attested to by the mosses growing on the stake fences. Triturus grandisonae larvae and adults collected in Paper Will Creek in Samuel P. Taylor State Park. See that species for details. The weather today was clear and extremely hot. 15 Sept. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both Triturus study areas. 0900-1015 hrs at Pofanette. See T. torosus. Baby Hyla only recently metamorphosed in tremendous numbers near water. So thick many must have been crushed under foot. They are every- where. Small Rana aurora (about 1inch) common. Young Sceloporus - probably recently hatched also about. At Pinchurst 1045-1145 hrs. See T. torosus Weather hot, sunny, hazy.
