4 Aug. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. At Lafayette
Reservoir to check Triturus 0830 - 0945 hrs.
No adults, no metamorphosed young.
At Pinehurst 1015-1115 hrs. Many larvae.
Stream still flowing.
12 Aug. Calif.: Marin Co. Made trip to Marin
Co. while hoping to find Triturus larvae
or post-larval young; at least to determine
stage of development attained thus far.
Went first to locality where Pweifel
had captured several Triturus last May
i.e. 1½ mi. SSE Alpine Lake Dam, Cataract
Canyon. No Triturus seen though stream
still with numerous deep pools through
no flow. Disamptodon larvae taken.
Rana boylii adults taken. Both common.
Also checked stream 4 mi. S, 1 mi. E
Mt. Tamalpais (West Peak), in Frank Valley.
Ideal appearing but no Triturus
in any form present. R. boylii present.
Probably 3-4 hrs spent searching for
larvae. No reason why larvae not
present has yet occurred to me.
17 Aug. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Check of Triturus
study area at Lafayette made to determine
developmental stage at which Triturus taurus
now are. (See that account). In area
1530 - 1545 hrs.
1330 - 1345.
