W. Rower 1951 Journal 18 Mar. Calif.: San Mateo Co. to look for Rana boylii and Triturus. Single T. torosus latter in rotten log, no Rana. Batrach- oseps common, Redwood, Douglas fir forest; stream rapid, wide, muddy - apparently from slides which were numerous and road repairs. 24 Mar. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both Triturus study areas. At Lafayette 1030-1045 hrs. At 1040, air 18.0°C, water 16.0°C on face of dam. Many animals still in water. One pair in amplexus. A few examined closely had many dark-tipped tubercles. At Pinchurst 1030-1340 hrs. At 1330, air 18°C, water 11½°C. Eight animals newly marked, three recaptures. Only two ♀♀ seen were in process of laying eggs. One set 5½ cm. below surface in quiet flow. 31 Mar. Visited both Triturus study areas today. At Lafayette 0900-1045 hrs. At 0945 on face of dam air 14.5°C, water 16.0°C; in cave NW of dam in deep water temperature 15.0°C. At Pinchurst 1130-1430 hrs. At 1400 hrs air 15½°C, water 10½°C. Eight marked Triturus handled in this area. (See species account this date for details). 7 Apr. Visited both Triturus study areas today. Five animals handled at Pinchurst.
