25 Nov. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Visited both
Triturus study areas today. 1115-1230
hrs. at Lafayette Reservoir. 1145 hrs air
14°C, water 15.5°C. Adults seen in
water on dam face. Tail fin well
developed and dorsum (at least anteriorly),
very pale. Not abundant. Apparently
only males. Under boards marked
three new animals #38-40, how
overcast. At Pinchurst 1315-1415 hrs.
1345 hrs. air 15.0°C, water 12.3°C
Stream clear and flowing normally.
No Triturus. Noted 4 Ensatina,
Batrachoseps common.
2 Dec. Raining heavily entire day. Did not
check either Triturus study area.
9 Dec. Visited both Triturus study areas. Pinchurst
1015-1045 hrs. Single adult ♀ seen outside
of area in temporary pool within
circlet of redwoods. Stream high,
swollen, muddy. Lafayette Reservoir
1115-1200 hrs. Water in lake high
and murky. No Triturus seen in
water though undoubtedly present. Two
adults on land under boards, a
rough shinned ♀, and a smooth
shinned ♂, (#41+42). One noticed when
surfacing for air in pool above area,
