W. Reiner 1950 Journal 28 Oct. Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Lafayette Reservoir the cave were seen very young Triturus each of which marked (# 26 - 32). Presence of young Triturus about 250 ft upslope from water noted. Some of these may have followed up relatively open ground if fire trails though some must have gotten to their spot through at least some of the dense mat of dried wild grass on slopes. Three marked animals on crest of hill. All must have moved uphill during past week since very dry before that time. Since none (?) in numbers near shore must be strong stimulus to wonder uphill after first rains of fall. One Hyla 500 ft (about) upslope in dense grass some distance from nearest trail. Also two Ancides lugubris on ridge, one Thamnophis elegans atratus on slope near water. 28 Oct. Calif.: Contra Costa Co., Pinchlund In area 1045-1215 hrs. 1215 hrs air 17.8° C, water 12.5°C. Stream flowing slowly, clear. Soil wet. Weather cool and overcast. Pool below drains almost to point of overflowing but as yet no water running here. Three new Triturus adults marked # 104-106. Seven Batrachoseps, one Eurytaria seen.
