7 Oct. Calif.: Contra Costa Co. Ranae still present
in pool beneath drains and about same
size as before. One measured as 20mm.
Total length. Pool about same size as
last week. Two animals taken # 101
a repeat capture, and 102b a Rana aurora.
At Lafayette Reservoir 1115-1130 hrs. At 1130
air 24.7°, water 24.0°C. 149 metamorphosed
Triturus counted under test board. Some
still appear to be freshly metamorphosed
based on presence of dorsal stripes, tail spots
and presence of gill stubs.
14 Oct. Visited both Triturus study areas. At Lafayette
Reservoir 1150-1245 hrs. 1220 hrs. air
21.5° water 22.0°C. 160 young Triturus
counted
under test board, some appear
freshly metamorphosed others apparently
metamorphosed sometime ago since all
trace of gill stubs and larval markings gone.
Some even appear to be growing larger.
One anaciated adult & under board in
intimate association with young. This
one preserved for record of condition of
gonads and stomach. Several young also
collected of which one preserved for stomach
contents and 10 to be kept alive if
possible for growth observations. Water
