study area. Triturus now meta-
morphosing. Toads are predator of
Triturus a young Thamnophis.
Young Hyla regilla common and
saw one large Rana catesbeiana.
Weather, warm, sunny, clear.
30 Sept. Visited both Triturus study areas during morning.
Pinchurst 0945-1015 hours. At 1015 air 14.2°
and water 8.5°C. No specimens of Triturus
seen including larvae in pool below drain
pipes. Must be present in this large pool
which remains 12' in diameter. Other small
pools present last week now gone. In
few moments while at pool several
Chestnut-backed Chickadees, a Brown Creeper
and a Winter Wren. All came to drink
and did so within 10-12 ft me. At
Lafayette Reservoir 1100-1130. 1125 hours
air at 21.0 and water 22.4°C. Only
Triturus seen were under board on wet
soil at edged water. Count of young
metamorphosed animals will be made
each week. 139 present today. Many still
showing strippings, spotting and gill
stubs.
7 Oct. Visited both Triturus study areas. At Pinchurst
0930-1015 hrs. Air 13.5°, water 9.7°C at 1015 hrs.
