30 June Calif.: Contra Costa Co., considerably further
along in development. Many larvae of
Hyla (?) also present. At Pinchurst noted
a Rana (young) run across roadway
in bright very hot sun at midday.
At Hayfayette Reservoir some Triturus
larvae very well developed along dam
face. Young, apparently recently metamorphosed,
Hyla regilla very abundant.
No water foul. A Thamnophis, probably
sirtalis atratus at edge of lake.
7 Aug. On pleasure trip drove to Mt. Diablo summit
and back today. Noted that top of peak
still within Upper Sonoran and Digger
Pine confined to last few hundred feet.
Only herps seen during day were several,
but not many, Sceloporus. Birds abundant.
Weather, warm and sunny. On
return stopped at Lafayette Reservoir
for few minutes. Triturus larvae absent
from dam face and more seen in
cave, but several of different sizes
noted on muddy bottom by depth gauge.
None under boards at edge of water.
23 Sept. Calif.: Contra Costa Co., 1500-1130 at
Pinchurst study area. Found two juvenile
Triturus one large Rana aurora and
